Joe Cleere – Made Me Think lyrics
I heard a whelping dog and a gunshot that rang out.
Like a singular oceanic wave across the almost dark.
And silence had passed too long but echoed questions never fade.
When all at once I heard a bark, the dog’s life not to waste.
And that had made me think,
What it must be like.
For those where shots ring out in the night
Who has died whose life’s destroyed.
It brought it home to me when I was sitting with an Auswitch survivor.
Black and white clips on a colour TV of mangled corpses in a pile.
He turned and said to us you see a corpse like any other.
Where I have to ask myself, is this one my mother.
And that had made me think, what it must be like.
For those where pits are dug in the night,
Who is gone, who won’t come home.
Who won’t come home?
This is no marching song
No mission no flag.
Just a little education for
Those who hold the pens.
We’ve got to clean this mess,
We’ve got to stop the pain.
From neighbourhoods to countries,
From a child to the human race.
And that had made me think,
What it could be like,
If we weren’t always trying to be right.
Or always trying to get rich.
