Strife – Thank You (Feat. Tommy Whispers) lyrics
[Trife Da God]
God thank you for joy, God thank you for pain,
God thank you for the sun, God thank you for rain,
God thank you for the air that you blew in my lungs,
And God thank you for blessin me with a beautiful son,
God thank you for the times I defeated the devil,
And God thank you for the ones that still believe in the ghetto,
Cause I aint got nothin better to do, But write this letter to you,
To let you know that I'll forever be true,
When my cousin Water died, My aunt lost all her pride,
Wanted to give up on life, Felt she lost all inside,
She cried tremendous tears for endless years,
Eventually broke down mentally and lost her hair,
July 6th 1989, I was just 9,
Too young to understand what was goin on at the time,
From the funeral, To the burial, Cryin hysterical,
And ever since then I always thought dying was terrible,
But that's apart of life, And life is so incredible,
It took quite a while for me to learn the meaning,
I remembered seeing Auntie boo-hooin and screamin,
Granny prayin asking the lord to remove these demons,
How could one bring forth so much misery and pain,
Like chameleons, Life has the ability to change,
But, Will it be the same, That's a mystery to gain,
If natures takin it's course, Who's the enemy to blame.
[Tommy Whispers]
Life is beautiful, Through the pain and strife,
I live trife, If it was up to me I would paint it white,
When the sunlight sunshined, It would shine so bright,
In love and memory for those who lost they life,
Who, Lost they husbands, Who lost they wife,
And tell the children everything is gonna be alright,
And Everything is gonna be alright.
[Chorus: Trife Da God]
(Yeah) I'm just a young black brother tryna make it out the ghetto,
Even though the road still seems rough, (Sing it with me)
To all the brothers who be lost in the struggle of course,
You know we still holdin our heads up, (One more time)
I'm just a young black brother tryna make it out the ghetto,
Even though the road still seems rough, (Come on sing along)
To all the brothers who be lost in the struggle of course,
You know we still holdin our heads up,
[Trife Da God]
I know I'm out here sinnin and the lord is my witness,
That's why I show gratitude and beg for forgiveness,
He’s' always by my side, Coachin me, Watchin over me,
He gave me the blessin to turn these words into poetry,
He taught me to express my feelings and speak openly,
No baguettes floodin my neck, Instead I rock a rosary,
The all I seein lookin down from above,
Pray that you purify my soul and every once of my blood,
Cause I know one day I'm gonna be judged,
For all the wrongs that I've done, And for the families I ruined with drugs,
All the hearts ruined because I wasn't true to one love,
Fornicatin with different ladies that I met in the club,
So I'm layin my cards flat on the table, Father I praise you,
Rest in piece to Rasheem he's my guardian angel,
Cause I aint got nothin better to do, then write this letter to you,
To let you know that I'll forever be true.
